10 Days of Prayer Northfield, 2008. FAQ’s Do I have to come for the entire 10 Days? This year we are praying for 120 people who will come for the entire 10 days. However, you can also reserve a room for any length of time. The cost for food and a room is $40 per day. In addition, it is absolutely free to come out for the day only. We simply ask for a donation to cover your food cost (if you are able). I want to come but I cannot afford it. There is no reason that money should hinder anyone who is called from coming. We will work really hard to make it possible for you to attend no matter how broke you are! We do ask that if you sense God calling you to join us that you make a good-faith effort to raise support from your church and Christian support network. Explain to your Church that you are going to be a “prayer missionary” for 10 Days and see if they will partner with you in this ministry. Send out support letters to friends and family explaining what God is doing and why you want to be a part of it. Finally, we are hoping to offer scholarships as funds are available to us. What about my family and my Children? We welcome and encourage parents to bring children of all ages to the 10 Days of Prayer. We encourage children to participate in prayer and worship in whatever degree they are able and we go out of our way to invite them to participate in the worshiping our Lord who said, “It would be better to have a millstone tied around your neck and be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.” We take this seriously and view worship as something that is for Children of God of all ages, from 1 to 101. What is the cost for Children to stay overnight? Please contact Jonathan Friz as this will be worked out on a case by case basis. Children will not be charged the full adult price. 10daysofprayer@gmail.com How does Childcare work? Basically, parents take turns caring for groups of children. It tends to work really well for us to rotate childcare on a schedule that we set up each day. There are many beautiful places to walk and play outside at Northfield and we also set up an inside play room for younger children. Even if you come with your kids, you will have plenty of time to pray because of the help of the community! What does an average day look like? Four prayer shifts are the focus of the day. They are three hours long and last from 6am to 6pm. We eat lunch informally in the midst of prayer. At 6pm everyone breaks in order to have a communal meal. After dinner, usually by 7:30 or 8:00 we have an evening worship service. These can be very short or last into the night depending on what God is doing. This structure is very flexible and people are constantly coming and going in all of these components. For instance, if the worship goes on until 11:00 you are free to go to bed if you are tired. Who does the chores? We do all of our own meal preparations, cleaning, and childcare. In other words, get ready for a crash course in Christian community! After dinner each night, you will be asked to sign up for prayer and work responsibilities for the next day. Last year it was amazing the way that we all collaborated to pray and worship together with such intensity and also got all the work done that was needed. The kitchen was constantly full of people preparing meals and was named “the fifth prayer room” because the food preparation was bathed in God’s presence. What does the “prayer” look like? In the original vision of the 10 days there were four rooms of prayer. The rooms were named Worship, Intercession, Scripture Reading, and Silence. So, at Northfield you will find four separate rooms dedicated to each of these types of prayer. The Worship room is also the main meeting room and is the room where all four of these types of prayer are combined together. For example, a typical three hour shift may begin with singing praises to God. Then, the Spirit might call for a time of silence where we wait on God. This may lead to the public reading of Scriptures leading to a time of intercession based on what God is saying through the silence and the Scriptures. All four of these "rooms" complement one another and flow into one another easily as we learn how to listen to the Holy Spirit. |
